cuboro was developed by Matthias Etter when working with special-needs schoolchildren in 1976 in Berne, Switzerland. It started as a simple learning game with a few elements (cubes with channels and tunnels). If you assemble the elements correctly, a marble passes through to the end, i.e. the exercise has been performed correctly.

Depending on how old you are and how skilled you are, you can solve the problem by a logical approach, trial and error, imitating, copying, learning by heart, practicing step by step or also by touching and feeling for those with impaired vision. The experience stays the same: through wise combination of individual elements a functioning system is created.

Matthias Etter extended the game and marketed it with twelve basic elements (in different versions) as a «game for both young and old» in 1985. Over time, cuboro was expanded with additional sets containing themed elements. Eighty two different elements are currently available.

The complete range of cuboro products is distinguished by its precise workmanship, manufactured respecting ecological concerns. In the joinery, a family business based in the Swiss «Emmental», untreated beech wood is used exclusively. The wood goes through a special drying process which ensures an outstanding precision of the blocks that lasts for years. Administration and headquarters of cuboro are situated in Hasliberg Reuti, Bernese Oberland, from where the product is sold worldwide.
